Tzatziki Sauce…or Taziki…or Tazeeki…or Tuhzeecky

Wouldn’t it be weird if I did an entire post with words spelled phonetically?  It mite luhk sumtheng leyek thiss.  Ore mabee leyek thiss eevin.  Kan u uhnderstand mee?  No? Feyene, eye wil stahp.

Whew. That was tiring. It’s way too early for phonetics.  Let’s just get to the tzatziki sauce, okay?  This is a super fantastically delicious Greek sauce that can be used as a spread for sandwiches or pitas, as a dressing for salad, or as a dip for vegetables.  Or if you’re weird, you can just eat it by itself.

And guess what else?  It’s not bad for you.  It’s healthy.  It will do good things to you, like increase your yogurt intake (superfood alert!), increase your vegetable intake (because that’s what you eat with it), make your tastebuds happy, make you smile, change the color of your aura, attract members of the opposite sex to you (or same sex, whichever you prefer), and give you magical powers.  Here’s how you make it:

8 oz. plain yogurt or Greek yogurt
1/2 tsp. salt (more or less, to taste)
1/2 tsp. pepper (more or less, to taste)
1 tbsp. minced garlic (more or less, to taste)
1 tbsp. fresh or dried dill weed (haha….dill weed.  This is more or less, to taste as well)
green onion, finely chopped
olive oil (use this to change the consistency of sauce)

Did you notice how often I said “more or less, to taste”?  You know what that means?  It means this is a recipe that is very easy to tailor to your own tastes.  Personally, I like lots of pepper, garlic, and dill, and I use hardly any olive oil at all in this because I like a thicker consistency.  That’s what puts a smile on my face and hones my magical powers.  If you want a sauce that’s thinner and more like a salad dressing, add more olive oil.  Here’s a good stock photo of the finished product since I forgot to take a pic of my own creation:

As long as you stick to these basic ingredients and mix them all together, you’ve got a good basic tzatziki sauce.  If you want to get crazy and throw some other veggies or spices in, then hellz yeah, get on wit yo bad self.   We’re all about individualism here at burnsomegoo.

P.S.  Be careful not to over-stir this…yogurt will break down and become runny if it gets mixed around too much.  It’s best to carefully fold in all the other ingredients. And don’t you forget it.
